deep freeze in ky
i finally spoke with my folks this morning. they are ok, but things are looking bleak. here is the rundown:
i talked to my dad at around 6 this morning

- all roads are still effectively one lane
- they are getting water out of the pond behind their house for bathing (WTF! - i bet mom is beside herself)
- he finally got a cell signal as...
ice storms -
apparently my family along with most of western kentucky have no power or phone services - even cell!!! local television websites are down and local newspaper sites have not been updated. this makes me bit nervous for them, but hopefully everything is ok.
i’ve called all of my relatives and friends in the area, with the same results… busy signal.

Fleet Foxes
Bon Iver
Dr. Dog
Blitzen Trapper
etc.
This is not to say that an influx of thoughtful, melodic, interesting music is a bad thing - but are we entering another one of those cycles where in a decade this time will be viewed as the nuevo-folk era? I simply hope that...
Christmas Disks
I’m finally getting comfortable with my x-mas gift albums and I have to say that I do love Dear Science. It isn’t a love a first listen disk, though…the first time I heard Desperate Youth, Bloodthirsty Babes I was enamored and wanted more…but Scienceneeded to grow on me. In fact my first listen in the car was a bit disappointing. After several long walks with earbuds I...
